Samsung Captures Another World’s First With 4GB DRAM

Samsung loves to be the first, this time they are presenting the World’s 4GB DDR3 DRAM. It has taken the company roughly four years to double the capacity of their semiconductor chips. The DDR DRAM is not only faster then SDRAM, it also uses much less energy. A older 1GB DRAM chip required 144 different components, the new 4GB DRAM chip only uses 36 cutting the electricity used by around 70%.

Semiconductor chips have come a long way since their introduction. Samsung first entered the DRAM market in 1992 with their introduction of a 64MB DRAM chip and the company has been working hard to double that number ever since.
