Reigncom’s President, Myoung Woo Lee has announced that iriver will be releasing a cell phone early next year. The new iriver phone will be available from Korean carrier KT. The iriver phone concept had been spotted at CES 2008, but iriver brushed off speculation of a release claiming the phone was just a concept.
Full technical specs have yet to be released but the phone features a large touchscreen, Wi-Fi, and embedded access to Bugs Music Service. Handwriting recognition and multiple dictionaries are also included.
The iriver phone and service activation will originally be available at 10 iriver Zone stores, with plans to expand the distribution to major carriers.

The design does not really measure up to iriver’s exceptional standard of quality. It looks like a poor imitation of an iPhone, which TBH is not a very good design to copy. I would like to see a much more refined version derived from the Lplayer, or S10 type design. Those are clearly superior designs to virtually everything else on the market.

[...] Over ten months ago at CES 2008, iRiver turned us on with their newest touchphone, the Wave. The wait was long, but we’re now happy that we finally got our hands on the official details of this phone. It features a large 3-inch TFT display (480 x 272), packs WiFi, an FM radio, multiple dictionaries, handwriting recognition, a miniSD expansion slot and e-books support. We don’t yet have a price for iRiver Wave, but we do know that the Korean market will get their hands on it on March 9th, through KT. [via Hallyutech] [...]

It’s not a cellphone, it’s a VOIP/Skype-ish phone.
Hi Mark, I think it is a cell phone. It is being launched with KT which is one of Koreans major telecom companies. Also the product shots are showing cell phone reception bars. What information do you have that its a voip/web only phone?
The product site only mentions it as an Internet phone:
http://product.iriver.co.kr/p_w10_phone.asp
And KT is the landline phone company, while KTF (the subsidiary) would indicate a cellular product.
Maybe it can do GSM like previously speculated, but I don’t think this specific model is going to have a cell radio.
And the full specs are available on KT’s Internet Phone service website:
