In its quest to attain greater market share, Samsung has introduced the world’s first 10x zoom and Ultra Wide 24mm compact digital camera, the “HZ1”. With the combination of an optical 10x Zoom and 24 mm ultra wide lens the HZ1 is capable of clicking sharper and wider images from a longer distance.
More standard features include 720P HD video recording that captures the action 30 frames per second. Besides that, there’s all the other stuff you’d expect in a premium camera of this class—optical image stabilization,a whopping ‘hope you have a big hard drive’ 10.2MP, and useful extras like face detection.
Commenting on the company’s initiative, Park Sang-Jin, Executive VP of Samsung Camera, said,
“The key to success is to provide products and solutions that enhance the consumers experience for beyond photo taking. We are looking at consumer needs for communication with their family and friends through photos and moving images. We’re trying to move beyond the competition which is primarily focused on features and functions to serve consumer needs better.”
This movement signals a move for the company away from the conventional business model in the camera industry, which has primarily focused on technological advancement. Basically, Samsung has decided to target the average consumer and give them what they want. To showcase this new direction, Samsung is also introducing photo sharing through a Home Network, uploading and sharing photos through WiFi, and an innovative new user interface.
