Samsung has teamed up with Sprint to deliver a WIMAX ready Q1 Ultra Premium Mobile PC to North America. The Q1 UMPC will access Sprints XOHM broadband service via Samsung’s E100 PC card.
Not only is Samsung providing Sprint with the devices and pc cards, but the company is also in charge of the equipment being used for the network. The Sprint XOHM service was supposed to launch in Washington and Baltimore this April, but the release date has been pushed back to “Sometime later this year”. Even with the delay Samsung and Sprint seem to be forming a fairly serious relationship.
As for the Samsung Q1 Ultra the latest Samsung UMPC will be sporting an Intel Core Solo ULV processor, and will offer both Windows Vista & XP Tablet Edition. The 7″ LCD screen will burn bright for the 6.5 hour battery life, as your fingers grace the V 1.5 split-qwerty keyboard. In addition to the XOHM WIMAX the Q1 ultra also plays nice with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The device is slated for release sometime in Fall 2008, lets hope it has a network to work on.
