While watching short 3D clips of ‘D-War’ a fantasy movie featuring mythical Korean dragons attacking L.A., we assumed Samsung’s PN42A450P 3D Plasma TV would also remain a bit of a fantasy for the United States market. However, just like the movie ‘Dragon Wars’ what is being called the “worlds first 3D ready flat-panel HDTV“, will be released with much fanfare in Korea this month followed by an undoubtedly more low key release stateside in March ‘08. Lets just hope by the time it is released it gets a better reception and better content then Dragon Wars.
The Display is available in 42 or 50 inch model, and of course is HDTV ready with a 15,000:1 contrast ratio, three HDMI-CEC ports, and a 18-bit color processing. The display uses TriDef 3D from DDD Group who’s 3D glasses cost a steep $200. There is no word yet on whether your standard $2 dollar 3D glasses will work as well as the pricer ones.
Using the 3D display at this years CES was not exactly a revolutionary 3D experience, the glasses were awkward, the 3D was not so great, and there is still very little good 3D content available. Unless your in the top 1% of early adopters hang in there for a better 3D experience. There is no word on the price yet, but if you have to ask. . .
