Daewoo Electronics had an impressive model home at New Tech showcasing their home network system. Although Daewoo is better known for their automobiles or financial scandals they also sell home networks direct to contractors and builders under their Homeciel brand. Currently Daewoo is offering automated blinds, lights, thermostats and control panels. Although they do have a large line up of TV’s, washing machines, and microwaves, the appliances included in the following posts are prototypes and not currently in production.
The nerve center of Daewoo’s Homeciel network is the Wall Pad which is a touchscreen controller that can handle your home’s security, lighting, utilities, appliances, and electronics. The home network system can also be controlled from the homeowners notebook PC, PC, PDA, TV, or cell phone.
The homes can be locked and unlocked, and the wall pad displays CCTV of a guest when someone rings the doorbell. The lights and blinds can be set to timers or manualu adjusted from the pad. If there is a fire or a gas leak security and the homeowner will be automatically notified. Gas, water, and electric consumption meters can be monitored.
The Daewoo Homeciel can communicate with the refrigerator, air conditioner, washing machine, and microwave. The Homeciel home network system using a variety of methods to gather and send data including RS-485, ZigBee, PLC (Power Line Communication), and wirless LAN to accomplish the networks operations.
