I had planed on attending the Next Generation Computing Show held at the KINTEX exhibition center Saturday and attend the Fifth ubiquitous City Korea show the following day but the two shows where rolled into on and I was able to cover both at the same time. NEXTCOM features advanced computer technologies such as virtual reality, tactile sensing, and innovative designs. The show also featured a hilarious futuristic fashion show [Video] meant to showcase how our clothing and our technology will become one. The fashion show [Video] was a little cheesy but provided a much needed rest from walking the floor. It felt like I was watching an old movie that was predicting all sorts of future technology that will never come to pass. A highlight was getting a chance to try a military training simulator, that simulated firing an M16 [Video], it was almost better then the real thing.
It was a rare treat to try out the system as such simulators often cost around $30,000 USD. I also had a drink with an employee from a industrial PDA company who had studied in Canada before. Industrial PDA’s are not the most exciting thing on the planet but I learned a lot about the company and their products.
Overall the two shows were a success and did an excellent job of highlighting some of the leading companies and products in Korea’s high tech industries.
