Kwangwoon University’s 3D Displays

11.06.06 | Comment?

Korea’s Kwangwoon University 3D Display Research Center was displaying ten different 3D displays [Video] at NewTech 2006. The 3D displays included a 30″ volumetric display, 60-100″ 3D Video Image displays, holographic 3D displays [Videos], and 40-100″ 3D projection displays. The demonstrations projected a bouquet of flowers, and displayed a Euro coin, and an interactive Coca-Cola monitor.
Korea’s Kangwoon University 3D Display Research Center is “endeavoring to advance as a Mecca of R&D on 3D display technologies of the next generation”. They have also recently issues a Jihad on all competing 3D technologies. The research center has partnered with 3 national research centers, 19 companies, and 29 universities in 15 counties.

Although the applications for 3D displays are limitless specific uses the Kwangwoon University team has examined include; advertising in supermarkets and vending machines, a virtual stage for presentations, game displays, and television broadcasting. If your the type of person who has to always be on the cutting edge of technology you can use the 3D display as an excuse for not dropping a few thousand on a new Plasma TV. Although it won’t be a very good excuse because these displays will not be commercially available for a long time.
